Biography

Richard (Dick) Clarence Dolan left this earth on February 25, 2024. Dick was born in River Grove, IL on February 24, 1932 He was the beloved husband of Elaine (nee Maechtle) Dolan, whom he married on June 8, 1957 at St. Pascal’s Catholic church in Chicago, IL. He was the loving Father to: Kathy (Jim) Farrell, Kevin (Leigh Ann) Dolan, Peggy (Vince) Forgione and Kelly Dolan. He was the proud Grandfather of 10: Amanda (Tom) Szymanski, Meghan Farrell, Caitlin Farrell (Vito Solitro), Ryan Dolan (Jacqueline Van De Velde), Erin (Peter) Nickalls, Brett (Allison) Dolan, Vincent (Hana) Forgione, Lisa (Jim) Bodnar, Christa Forgione, Nick Forgione. He was the cherished Great Grandfather of 8: Logan and Emma Szymanski, Maeve Solitro, Leo and Eva Forgione, Madilyn, Aidan, Jaclyn Bodnar. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence, and Gladys (Montgomery) Dolan, also his sister Mary June (Paul) Stinger and brother Tom (Dee) Dolan. Dick’s work career was extensive. He began in various positions in multiple industries and then moved into the healthcare world as Personnel Director for St. Joseph’s Hospital. Consulting was in his future beginning with AT Kearney, where he met his future partner, John A. Witt. Dick joined Witt Associates after a year and began Witt and Dolan, which provided all aspects of management consulting services and executive recruiting to primarily healthcare organizations. Upon retiring from Witt and Dolan he started Career Decision Inc. His firm provided consulting, Second career guidance, corporate outplacement, and general career counseling. After he sold Career Decision, Inc. he began Dick Dolan Associates. His firm provided executive recruiting, trustee education and consulting for executive compensation. During his long career he interacted with over 300 hospitals and 15 large manufacturing companies in 48 states. He was a published author of a book: Fresh Starts Charting a New Career. He also wrote numerous articles which appeared in national publications. He was a recognized authority in the healthcare field and spoke at many national conferences. He also lectured at major universities across the U.S., including: Harvard, Yale, Stanford, and Duke. He sat on the Board for Elmhurst Memorial Hospital and served on the Board for The Girl Scouts Council for DuPage County. Dick’s love for sports was evidenced by his years of coaching baseball from little league through semi-pro. He was a graduate of DePaul University in Chicago and was a lifelong devotee of college basketball. Visitation will be held on Saturday March 2, 2024 from 9-11 A.M. at The Oaks Funeral Home, 1201 E Irving Park Road (at Prospect) Itasca, IL 60143.
