Biography

Peter L. Fino Jr., beloved father, husband, and veteran, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2024. Husband of Donna Claps for 54 years; Loving father of Peter, Ian (Michelle), and Evan (Kristin); Cherished grandfather of Megan and Justin; Fond brother of the late Adele Martin, the late Sandy O’Brien, the late Theresa Claps(Robert); Dear uncle of many nieces and nephews. Dear son of the late Peter and Santina Fino. Peter was born and raised in the vibrant city of Chicago, where he cultivated a strong sense of camaraderie within Boy Scouts of America. He graduated from St. Patrick's High School in 1963, marking the beginning of his journey into adulthood and service to his country. In January of 1964, Peter enlisted in the United States Marines Corps, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to defending his nation's freedoms. He was deployed to Vietnam, where he spent the entirety of 1967 courageously serving his country with the 3rd Marine Division. During his service, Peter earned several commendations for his bravery and dedication, including multiple Bronze Stars, the prestigious Presidential Unit Citation, and the Purple Heart; a testament to his selflessness and sacrifice. Upon returning home, Peter embarked on a new chapter of his life which included his marriage to Donna, and started a family shortly after. Peter bonded with his sons by coaching them in basketball from elementary school through high school. While his main occupation was a barber, he embraced his passion for British and European cars with unmatched enthusiasm. His love for these automobiles led him to become deeply involved in every aspect of their world—he bought, sold, restored, showed, and even judged world class examples of these vehicles. Yet, nothing brought him greater joy than vintage racing them, where he could use them for what they were intended for. Throughout his life, Peter touched the hearts of many with his notorious sense of humor, and boundless curiosity. He will be remembered fondly by all who knew him, leaving behind a legacy of courage, passion, and laughter.
