Biography

Anna Marie Jordan, nee Dayer, 93 years old, was born in Conway, Arkansas, March 16,1925. She passed away Feb. 2, 2019. She grew up on a farm with her parents, Joseph and Philomene Dayer, who immigrated from Switzerland, and her 18 brothers and sisters. Soon after moving to Chicago, at 19 years old, she met Jack Jordan. Five years later, in 1949, they married and were never apart in 44 years. Jack & Ann raised 10 kids in Chicago. To make extra money, Ann, a homemaker, babysat for many children in her home. At times there were as many as 5 extra kids in the house. She was always cooking, baking pies and cookies and sewing. She made clothes for the kids, doll clothes, beautiful baby blankets and gorgeous needlepoint. She was very involved in her church, St. Angela, and was still friends with many ladies from the parish. Ann enjoyed sports and attended numerous basketball games watching Jack coach and her kids and neighbor kids play baseball, basketball and football. Every summer Jack, Ann and their kids spent time on the farm in Conway with her family, or her siblings traveled to Chicago to visit Ann. They all remained very close to this day. As the Jordan kids grew up, got married and had kids of their own, Ann’s 10 kids and 15 grandchildren became the focus of her life. She attended graduations, sporting events and parties and loved her family as much as they loved her. Grandma was probably her favorite name in her long, full wonderful life. She spent the last few years of her life at Symphony of Hanover Park and received loving care from nurses, Dr. Shanchuk and the entire staff. She was still active, while getting nursing care, attending mass on Sunday, praying the rosary, patprticipating in every activity and coloring in her lovely room when she needed a break. She never complained and was always grateful for her care. Her last 10 days she received exceptional tender loving care from the staff at St. Alexius Hospital and their hospice care team.
