Biography

The world lost a wonderful man on Wednesday. A beloved husband, father, son, uncle, brother, friend. David C. Gruendler, 60, of Itasca, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at home. Visitation is Friday, June 24th 3:00-8:00 PM at The Oaks Funeral Home, 1201 E Irving Park Road (at Prospect). Itasca. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 25th at 11:00 AM at Grace Lutheran Church, River Forest, IL. David was born December 3rd, 1961 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Carl and Donna (Beier) Gruendler. Shortly after he was born his family moved to Chicago, Illinois where he spent the remainder of his life. David met and fell in love with Peggy Elia. They were married on November 11th, 1984 in Oak Park, Illinois. They built a beautiful life together and raised their four children in Itasca – his kids and grandkids were David’s pride and joy. David was his happiest when hunting and fishing with his father and children. He was known for his fantastic cooking and enjoyed spending time in the kitchen. Most of all David was known for his quick wit and sense of humor. He is survived by his wife Peggy, son Matthew (Royella) Gruendler, Tuscon; daughter Courtney (Ivan) Alvarez, Naperville; son Bryan (Megan) Gruendler, Moline; daughter Monica (Clayton) VanNest, Bloomingdale; father Carl Gruendler, Melrose Park; three sisters Deirdre Gruendler, Marshalltown, Iowa; Angela (Paul) Gruendler, Melrose Park, Illinois, Heidi Bodanske, Mount Jackson, Virginia; his beloved grandchildren Sedona, Tara Lisa, Conrad, Brayden, Madilyn, Kaylie, Emmitt, Elaina, and fond uncle of many nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his mother, Donna Gruendler.
