Biography

Peter J. “Pete” McVay Jr. ​ Beloved husband of Theresa “Terry” nee Holby; Loving Dad of Mary; Dearest brother of Barbara (Leo) McCarthy and Robert (the late Joan). He is preceded in death by his siblings, Richard (the late Viola), James (Marilyn), Ann Marie, Joanne (the late Christopher) Brennan, William (the late Jeanette), Mary Ann (the late Donald) Berkstresser, and Patrick (Dorcas). Dear brother-in-law of Frances Holby and the late Richard Holby. Cherished uncle and great uncle of many nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his best friend and “grand-dog”, Olaf. Pete was a wonderful family man, friend and neighbor. He was a proud U.S. Air Force veteran and worked as a United Airlines mechanic for 43 years. He taught many students over 40+ years as flight instructor and was honored with the Wright Brothers Master Pilot award in 2018 for his contributions to building and maintaining the safest aviation system in the world, through practicing and promoting safe aircraft flight operations for over 50 years. In his spare time, Pete was an avid bike rider and enjoy countless hours walking Olaf. Visitation Friday, Oct. 25th 3:00 - 8:00 pm and Saturday 9:00 am until time of funeral, 10:30 am at The Oaks Funeral Home 1201 E. Irving Park Road (at Prospect), Itasca to Saint Julian Eymard Church. Mass 11:00 am. Entombment All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Pete’s name to Northwest Community Hospital’s Pet Therapy Dogs Program 3040 W.
