Biography

Thomas Gehrke, 53, went to be with the Lord on June 6, 2018. A dedicated Lutheran, Tom served as an Elder at his church for many years. He was a devoted family man, and his greatest interest in life was to spend time with his wife and children. Born in Chicago, he graduated from Addison Trail High School. Soon after completing his degree at Elmhurst College, Tom landed a job at Subaru of America, Inc., where he worked as a dedicated executive. Over the course of nearly 30 years, he held various positions, including Regional Distribution Manager and Zone Director. As an official representative of Subaru, Tom established a strong relationship with the Fire and Police Departments of Itasca, one that continues to this day. In 2013 he was instrumental in having Subaru set a Guinness Book of World Records for the “Largest Parade of Subaru Cars.” Tom is survived by his devoted wife of 24 years, Julie (nee Gradziel) and beloved sons, Blake and Nicholas; his father Ralph Gehrke; his sisters Monica (Robert) Reed, Lisa Gehrke, and Janet (Gregory) Schmitz, along with his loving grandfather Robert Davis. He is cherished by many, including nieces, nephews, extended family, and close friends. He will be dearly missed. He was preceded in death by his son, Jordan and his mother, Beverly Davis-Reardon. Visitation will be on Monday, June 11th from 3:00-8:00pm at The Oaks Funeral Home, 1201 E. Irving Park Road (at Prospect), Itasca. Family and friends will meet Tuesday, June 12th at The Lutheran Church of St. Luke, 401 S. Rush Street, Itasca for Visitation from 10:00am until the Funeral Service at 10:30am.
